Ruth Bader Ginsburg, often referred to as RBG, was a trailblazing figure in the United States legal system. Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1933, Ginsburg attended Cornell University before transferring to Harvard Law School. Despite facing discrimination as one of only nine women in her class, Ginsburg graduated at the top of her class.
Throughout her career, Ginsburg fought tirelessly for gender equality and women's rights. As a lawyer, she argued six cases before the Supreme Court, winning five of them, and was a founding member of the Women's Rights Project at the American Civil Liberties Union. In 1993, she was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Bill Clinton, becoming the second woman to ever serve on the nation's highest court.
During her time on the Supreme Court, Ginsburg became known for her sharp intellect, strong opinions, and unwavering commitment to upholding the Constitution. She was a staunch advocate for civil rights, LGBTQ rights, and reproductive rights, and her dissents often became rallying cries for change.
Ginsburg's impact on American jurisprudence and society as a whole cannot be overstated. She was a champion for justice, a role model for women and girls around the world, and a symbol of resilience in the face of adversity. Her legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away in September 2020, but her impact lives on in the countless lives she touched and the progress she helped to achieve.
